Jennifer Boysen in Art Review

Jennifer Boysen, Untitled, 2015

I think it would be great fun to write a book on the monochrome, if you could somehow avoid too much sad bastard existentialism. It would be more Stoppard than Balzac, more funny than religious. The truth is that monochromes are interesting and the artists who make them all make them for different reasons. Wallace Stevens' blackbird seems downright simple in the end, in the face of the myriad ways a monochrome can torque and twist the mind. Maybe Jennifer Boysen will be chapter one, she is one of the best monochrome artists working right now:
