Monique van Genderen in Art Review
Sometimes old fashioned impulses transcend the pet issues of the moment. I found this to be the case in the work of Monique van Genderen, a painter who, on one hand, is a part of familiar discourse of contemporary painting, while, on the other hand, gives thrills reminiscent of a different era. Whatever year van Genderen fits in, however, ceases to matter in the lights that she paints damn good pictures. I find her an appropriate painter to write about on a day when the news is of the movie Back to the Future. Today is the day that Doc and Marty jumped ahead to in their modified DeLorean. Whether 1955 or 2015, van Genderen's work seems of the moment. Time to get on my hoverboard and go to lunch. Go Cubs!
